The Vermont Institute of Applied Meteorology currently contracts weather forecasts for VTrans during the winter months.
They hope to use the new computer cluster to improve their forecasting accuracy so the agency will better know when and where to plow and sand the roads.
Wait time for forecasts are expected to decrease from 24 hours to only 1 hour, and is worth an estimated $200,000. It is expected to come online within the next 2 weeks.
