Construction season and traffic delays have started, the mission of State Transportation Agencies nationwide, has moved from building new highway systems to repairing them.
Since funds are limited the state of Vermont has had to face realities to do this.

In order to keep the roads well maintained crews are currently working on several projects on interstate 91, they include keeping up with bridge maintenance, which eventually saves time and money.

Nearly 3 million dollars of stimulus money will move to repair about 12 bridges in the Saint Johnsbury and Lyndon areas, currently the company Winterset is focusing on repairing 3 bridges on interstate 91.

Ron Gray, a Regional Construction Engineer, explained what they'd be doing to these bridges, "So this project is taken off all the pavement of the concrete deck doing, taking the old membrane off. And doing any repair work to the deck that's necessary."

These necessary repairs could extend the typical 50-year life span of bridges and even roads.

Dennis Whitehill at VTrans. District 7 said his crews are working on maintenance as well, "I mean just all the roads are getting, they're getting old they just need repair certain roads head different things."

The lack of money in the state has Governor Douglas focusing on repair work, rather than rebuilding.

They have until the end of September 2011 to complete the project, but things are moving quickly and they hope to be done early.

But this summer motorists can also expect to see paving from as far south as Wells River to about Newport.
