Changes Coming to Rt. 5 in Lyndonville
The town of Lyndon could be getting some needed repairs to Route 5 within the coming years. Town officials have begun to revisit plans for reconstruction that have been on the table for many years now.
The addition of a middle lane to Route 5 between Red Village Road and Hill Street is in the works, as well as the installation of 2 stoplights; one at Red Village Road and the other in front of the new Kinney Drugs location across from Rite Aid.
The improvements would be important because Route 5 is the only road with connection to towns further northeast.
Lyndon Town Manager Dan Hill told News 7 that, "Particularly when businesses at the Industrial Park are either opening or closing for the day, there's an awful lot of traffic on that stretch of road, and with no access management, no light control, it's become more dangerous."
The expansion and light installations would reduce the number of accidents while speeding up the flow of traffic through the town. The project does not have a start time, but it could take up to 2 years for any construction to get underway.
