Lt. Governor Debate: Vermont Yankee

During the Lieutenant Governor debate one of the main topics of discussion was Vermont Yankee, specifically whether the plant should be relicensed.

Four candidates attended the debate, Democrat Steve Howard, Independent Peter Garritano, Progressive Marjorie Power, and Republican Phil Scott.

Phil Scott, the republican candidate and current state senator, was open to the idea for of relicensing, but also said that if after careful examination of the plant it is determined that it is unsafe then it should be shut down.

Howard, Garritano, and Power were all very much opposed to the idea of relicensing. Howard says that we should be looking into other sources of renewable energy like wind and solar instead.

If Vermont Yankee is relicensed the plant will be cleared to run for another 20 years.
