VERMONT - Governor Phil Scott announced Tuesday, Vermont school staff and childcare workers are eligible to receive vaccinations. Scott and his administration suggested the new Johnson & Johnson vaccine could get students back in the classroom sooner.
School staff and childcare workers are eligible to sign up for vaccine appointments starting this Friday. Vaccinations for school staff and childcare workers will begin March 8th, they will receive the one dose Johnson and Johnson vaccine at school-based vaccination clinics. If a school employee or childcare worker does not want to receive the Johnson and Johnson single shot vaccine, they are eligible to register with Walgreens to receive the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines.
This is separate from Vermont's age group vaccination efforts.
Secretary Mike Smith spoke during the Governors biweekly press conference, about how important these vaccines are to get school back to fully in person learning, a goal which the Scott administration hopes to achieve by then end of April.
"our kids are not okay. This is not anybody's fault; it is however the unfortunate fact that part time in person instruction and remote learning is not meeting their needs. To that end, we will leverage our new supply of vaccines and the expanded federal pharmacy program to support accomplishing the goal that we know educators and Vermonter's share" Smith says during Tuesday's press conference.
If you are a School staff member or childcare professional and would like to know more information about vaccinations. Scott says, to ask your employer about information on vaccination scheduling.
