HassanNEW HAMPSHIRE- Maggie Hassan will now be looking forward to serving a second term as New Hampshire State Governor.

In a much more closely contested race than expected, Hassan took victory over newcomer Republican challenger Walt Havenstein.  With 99 percent of precincts reported, the Democratic incumbent edged Havenstein 53 percent to 47 percent.

Increasing minimum wage is among the top priorities for the 56-year-old Hassan during her next term.  She was first elected into office in 2013, and has increased health care to workers and job opportunities. Hassan says she will continue to work on creating more opportunities for employment in New Hampshire, especially by networking with innovative businesses.  She also plans to assist middle class families with opportunities that will help move the economy forward.

Havenstein's campaign was based on his experience in leading defense contracting companies BAE Systems and Science Applications International Corp. He made promises to create jobs by lowering business taxes.  It was Havenstein's first run for public office

In 2012, Maggie Hassan beat Republican Ovide Lamontagne which at the time made her the only female Democratic governor in the entire country.
