March for Babies

march for babysNEW HAMPSHIRE- Wells River celebrated the Marching for Babies event which happened all across the country Saturday.

The walk is set up for women and babies born with serious birthing problems.

People from all around the area helped raise more $15,000 dollars with a portion of that money going to surrounding hospitals.

Danielle Scott wanted to raise money so others did not have to go through the trauma she did during her pregnancy. "Three years ago we found out that our child was terminally ill" says Scott, "we went in for a twenty week ultrasound and instead of finding out whether we were having a boy or a girl we found out that our baby had a bunch of birth defects and no amybiotic fluid."

Scott also said doctors told her she wouldn't survive her pregnancy where she gave birth at 22 weeks. After experiencing this and holding a tiny child in your arms, it's devastating. Now we walk because we want to help other families that might be going through the same thing."

About 150 people walked and donated money for the event, helping families like Scotts.

"You know, we've had amazing support from the community and our families and friends and it's such a wonderful day to come out and do something like this, it feels good," Scott said.

The Scott family is not the only family who has faced traumatic pregnancies. Roger Clapp, the Director for Vermont's March for Dimes, wife bore a breached child, meaning the baby was born facing the wrong direction. Now every year Clapp dedicates his time to the March for Babies he says, "just knowing that the work we do here, and the work that all of these people contribute to, helped in the survival of my own child, its personally rewarding to me."

The next March for Babies is scheduled at Lyndon Institute on May 19th.
