Fitness With A Twist

spinning classST. JOHNSBURY - Spinning is a cardiovascular exercise where you are on a stationary bike for about an hour. Bonnie Bashaw-Cole has been teaching the heart racing exercise for fourteen years.

"I love it," Said Cole. "Seeing people lose weight and get fit is amazing."

Spinning is a great way for all types of people to get a workout in. Cole said that many people are scared to come the first time, but everyone that is a regular encourages the new person to come at least three times. They say that on the third time, you are hooked, and for cyclists it's a great way to stay in shape during the off-season.

"It's great training if you're a cyclist," Said Cole. "In the winter a lot of our people that cycle will take spinning class because they can't cycle outside. You're basically ahead of the curve by about a month."

The benefits of spinning are endless. It's a great way to stay in shape, and meet new people. It's not a very time consuming exercise as the average "spin" takes about 45 minutes.

A "spin" is definied as the length of the workout. If you are working your very hardest you can burn up to 600 calories in just one spin.

"It's a great leg workout as well as cardiovascular," Said Cole. "I find spinning very exhilarating. You get a group atmosphere so it kind of serves as motivation."

For most, a training partner is all they need to workout. With spinning, you get a group atmosphere that is unbeatable as every person motivates one another and it becomes a life style.

Bonnie offers spinning classes every Friday at 8:15 in the morning.
