st. j artifactsST. JOHNSBURY - (The Two Fifty Club) Peggy Pearl has been collecting donations since last summer so that the St. Johnsbury History and Heritage Center's artifacts can be displayed at a new location.

She has received over two-hundred fifty thousand dollars from various organizations to make this dream a reality.

"We had some families join together and some groups and then some people just gave us what they could." Said Pearl.

The Center isn't the only place that holds St. Johnsbury artifacts. The Fairbanks Museum also has it's fair share of unique items and they are supporting the Center's cause. Adam Kane explains why.

"Having St. Johnsbury History and Heritage as an organization that can showcase these items is so important," Said Kane. "They should be seen and they're going to provide that opportunity," Kane said.

This not-for-profit organization is just two years old and they certainly are facing their fare share of challenges that come with being non-profit.

"It's particularly hard for us because we're starting from the ground up," Said Pearl. "We have no history of being out here and we have no set mailing list, so we have to develop everything."

But it's not all bad.

"It's one more reason to go to St. Johnsbury. You can go and visit the Athenaeum Catamount Arts Academy and the History and Heritage Center," Said Kane. "It enriched all the cultural organizations and businesses in St. Johnsbury."

Pearl hopes that she can use the artifacts to not only attract more tourists, but put them to use for education as well.

"One of the plans is to have a classroom where we can teach the history of St. Johnsbury," Said Pearl. "There are various rooms where we can have exhibits.

The Heritage Center needs just 167,000 dollars to reach there goal. You can donate by visiting their Facebook page.
