Officials: Weekend Fire Not Suspicious

MountPleasantStFireST. JOHNSBURY - Fire investigators say a weekend fire that damaged a home on Mt. Pleasant street was caused by an electrical problem and is not suspicious. The home suffered nearly $200,000 in damage.

The home, at 1031 Mt. Pleasant street near the Mt. Pleasant cemetery, is owned by Alfred E. Turner Jr., according to officials.

The St. Johnsbury Fire Dept. responded around 2 p.m. on Saturday and found flames shooting out of the home.

Mutual aid was provided by the Lyndonville, Waterford and Concord Fire Departments.

Nobody was injured as a result of the fire.

An emergency responder on scene told a News 7 reporter it appeared the fire broke out in the basement.

The American Red Cross is assisting the homeowner.
