ST. JOHNSBURY- Just two years ago the Northeast Kingdom lost one of it's own, the tragedy hit the community hard but they've come together again to remember the woman who friends and students called "The Lady In Pink."
Melissa Jenkins a former St. Johnsbury Academy teacher lived by the motto "Love Wins" and "Love those the most that need it the most."
Jon Unsworth an employee at Ramuntos Pizzeria was just one of the people that wore pink in memory of Jenkins.
Driving down route five...the color pink floats throughout the town.
"The town will always keep her memory alive because it was such a brutal death for this young lady," Marion Cairns a family friend of the Jenkins said.
Jenkins' young son Ty now at the age of four is reportedly doing okay. Cairns said Melissa's cousin Meredith is taking care of Ty as well as his father. Jenkins is still remembered at the Danville Restaurant she used to waitress at. "She just worked with all the girls. She was a little messy but they said they'd do anything to pick up after her now." Cairns said.
St. Johnsbury Academy students are wearing pink Monday in memory of Jenkins. "The town has not forgotten her and we'll never forget her," said Cairns.
The couple charged with her killing, Allen and Patricia Prue are still awaiting trial. The case against Allen was scheduled to be back in front of a Judge this Friday, but has been delayed again. State's Attorney Lisa Warren and Prue's Attorney Robert Katims agreed that they didn't have enough time to handle Friday's hearing, scheduled just eleven days prior. Judge Robert Bent said the Jenkins case is getting too old and that he still intends on a June trail.
