New Librarians at the Athenaeum

Librarian SSST. JOHNSBURY - The next time you're at the St. Johnsbury Athenaeum, don't be surprised to see a couple of new faces. While Alex Lent and MacKenzie Ross have been employed there for shorter than a month, but are both very excited about their new jobs in the community.

Lent started at the Athenaeum on February 20th, but has been working in libraries since 2007. Lent previously worked as an archivalist assistant at the University of Massachusetts. Despite the large change of demographics, Lent is very pleased with the change. Working in a close-knit community has made for an easier transition. "We see regulars all the time, I'm recognizing people already and I've only been here really a few days. So it's really great to have that sort of close relationship with patrons." Lent's job for now is to continue to learn how the library works.

Lent's new colleague MacKenzie Ross has a more specific role at the Athenaeum. She is the new youth services librarian, a job she just couldn't pass up. "This job popped up and I really love working with kids and I just couldn't not apply... and I love serving communities." Ross is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, where she received a degree in library science. She moved to Milton, Vermont, and lived their prior to finding this job. So far at the Athenaeum, Ross has organized two story times, and looks forward to organizing more, as well as other events.
