ST. JOHNSBURY - Last Friday, a national shutdown was called for across all social media platforms by various online personalities.
St. Johnsbury was one of many towns who didn’t join Friday but rather Saturday, after the work week had concluded. In fact, it appeared that many of the protesters in St. Johnsbury on Saturday weren’t aware of the national shutdown.
Although many of the people attending made it clear that engaging in a national shutdown should come second to making sure your needs are met, with some people citing that opting out of a work day is simply not an option for everybody.
Unlike Burlington who saw staff shortages or early closing on account of the shutdown, St. Johnsbury and many other towns continued their Friday as normal, keeping stores open and with no active protesting.
While St. Johnsbury did choose to move their protest, it didn’t dilute their messaging on that day, as hundreds of people made their stance on ICE clear, joining the countless other towns across America in order to expose the brutality of ICE’s actions against American citizens.
