ST JOHNSBURY - Saint Johsbury was rewarded a $30,000 recreation from the state. It is one of twelve towns to receive this grant. The grants came from the Department of Housng and Community Development (DHCD). It includes municipal planning grants and Bylaw Municipal grants which helps towns upgrade their zoning bylaws to uplift the development of housing. In a press release from the state, some of these grants will help communities write and update their town plans. Other grants will help towns create specific plans for developing recreational opportunities, studying flood resilience, and strenghthening artsd and culture.
"As our state works hard to ensure a future with vibrant and resilient communities, we need to continue to provide our municipalities with the tools they need to adapt and evolve," DHCD Commisioner Alex Farrell stated.
Since 1998, DHCD has provided over $15 million to over 240 cities and towns. They have also awarded seven Bylaw Modernization Grants worth $105,808.
