ST. JOHNSBURY- Eastern Avenue at Pearl Street was closed to traffic on Monday. A 300 foot water main was being put in by the town on Pearl Street, beginning on Eastern Avenue.
The purpose behind this new water main being added, was to ensure that businesses such as the Saint Johnsbury Distillery, and other businesses in the area near by. The road was closed to allow more space for workers to work in the already crowded area.
Town Manager, Chad Whitehead, said that crews were dealing with, "a lot of utilities to work around right there. So the contractor requested to close the street down, just at that intersection for Monday, with a plan to open it back up at night, but then close it back again on tuesday in the event it needs to.
Whitehead also adds, that this water main installation has been on the towns radar, and to-do list for some time now.
