Saint Johnsbury football keeps rolling

Saint Johnsbury- The Saint Johnsbury Academy Varsity Football team is off to a hot start in the 2017 season by winning their first five games. The hilltoppers haven't slowed down one bit as they stand 5-0 and are coming off an 18 point comeback win over BFA St. Albans. This is a very dangerous football team and Head Coach Rich Alercio has taken notice.

"Some years it seems like everything has been working, this is one of those years." Said Head Coach Rich Alercio. Well Coach isn't wrong; the hilltoppers have been dominant on both offense and defense. According to Alercio the team's game plan going into each game is to score more points than they give up, and that's exactly what they have been doing.

The team has faced some adversity throughout the season by battling the very warm weather which kept them off their field a few times. This has been an odd fall with summer like temperatures that forced the team to practice inside. "We had to stay indoors for a portion of our practice but we are fortunate to have a good indoor facility."

Having good team chemistry is important to a team's success and that's one thing this team doesn't have to worry about. "It's the most socially cohesive team I have coached in 30 years." Alercio continued. The hilltoppers will look to continue their winning streak as they take on Brattleboro Union High on October 6th.
