ST. JOHNSBURY - People all over Vermont are sharing stories about their lives in the 1970's as part of the Vermont Historical Society's Vermont 70's Project.
The project is two-years in length and being funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services. It is designed to collect and share the history of the Green Mountain State in the 1970's. The historical society is hosting community forums across the state. Last night a forum was held at the St. Johnsbury Athenaeum where people could share stories about their lives throughout the 70's so the historical society can better understand key pieces of that time period.
The historical society is doing in depth-research, looking through archives, collecting objects, photos, and documents from the 70's.
Project Director Jackie Calder says that research is not enough though, saying, "There are still people alive who can tell the story better than I could do research on it."
One of the Vermont Historical Society's goals is to capture emotion from people who lived in the 1970's.
