ST. JOHNSBURY- After claiming their first ever Division One state title, the St. Johnsbury Academy Girls Indoor Track team is confident in their ability to finish the season strong at the New England Championships.

With a strong support system from parents and the rest of the academy, the girls are hoping to rally the rest of the St. Johnsbury community behind them as well. As indoor track is not a common sport to many people in the area, this has been a tougher objective then previously thought.

Coach Chip Langmid, who was recently named coach of the year by the Vermont Principals Association, is happy with how the season has gone so far. "We scored in every single event. So, there's a great deal of talent across the board. There were a lot of freshman who scored a lot of points."

So far this season the Hilltoppers have taken first place in three events, while placing second in another two. The big win of the season came this past Saturday when the girls beat Perennial power Essex at the Vermont State Championships, which was held at Norwich University. The team hopes to bring home another title.

The team will travel to Cambridge, Massachusetts this weekend to take part in the USA Track and Field New England Championships at Harvard University.
