School Testing New Math Program

NEK School ClassroomSHEFFIELD - One third grade class at the Miller's Run School is a pioneer in a new learning technique that helps students with math.

Diane Stahler's class dedicates part of each day to practice math equations, but not in the traditional way.  The new program is called "rocket math."  Stahler's class has been doing rocket math since January and most students and staff believe that the technique is working.

How it works is each student has a partner and they quiz each other for one minute. After the minute is up, they switch roles.  Once they're done, they sit down and do more problems on their own, which is also timed.  This method makes math fun for kids.

If the program continues to be a success, other grades at Millers Run School and even other schools may take part in it as well.
