hopestatLYNDONVILLE - The H.O.P.E store in Lyndonville has been keeping up with raising demands for both their food shelf and their backpack program.

H.O.P.E., short for Helping Other People Everyday, has seen the number of those in need of food increase from 2011 to 2012, despite the recent change over to supplying prepackaged bags of food.

In 2011, Hope's food self serviced 329 households. and with 3 months left in 2012, Hope has already services 288 house holds in the area.

The food shelf is not the only program in demand this year, Hope's backpack program has doubled in demand and this year. During the 2011 to 2012 school year Hope supplied 20 to 30 backpacks per week to the program. This school year, they are filling about 50 backpacks per week to students in need. "We're working with more agencies now so that people can come in and we just have a running voucher for an agency instead of  doing each individual person," said Hope volunteer Samantha Klepper.

Klepper added, "A lot of people from home health they can't give names out, so we just put it under them and we have it running which has been very helpful as far as I know, for us and for them."

Hope continues to accept donations of food and toiletries for both their backpack program and food bags.
