LYNDON- A new trash collection company will now provide services for Lyndon. The decision came after the debate of whether they should switch companies. Last night, the Lyndon Selectboard met with the public to discuss the proposal.
The town was originally under contract with NEK Waste Management District; come this summer it will be changing to Earley Rubbish and Recycling company.
The reason behind the change is expenses. Owner of Earley Rubbish and Recycling, Steve Earley, announced he would charge a lower cost per bag than NEK Waste Management District. Earley said, he would charge three dollars for a 33 gallon bag that would be picked up on the curb, then brought to New Hampshire. Earley also said, his business is a small family company and they are not looking to make a killing. They have been in business for 15 years.
Earley heard of the position when Lyndon sent out letters. He will start business with the town on June 1st and go until the end of the year. If it works out, he will keep going into 2016.
"My concern was that it was going to be far more expensive than what we were already paying, so we thought we were designing a more economic system," said Lyndon Selectboard Chair, Marty Feltus.
Executive Director, Paul Tomasi, for the NEK Waste Management District was also at the meeting and made comments after Earley announced his services would be less expensive.
"We have to buy bags this week and what's interesting is I can't compete with the three dollar bag."
