Sen. Sanders Goes to College

bernie sanders lscLYNDON - Vermont State Senator Bernie Sanders (I) came to town today. Lyndon State College scheduled a "Town Hall Meeting" to talk to students about issues throughout the state and the direction that Vermont is going in.

One key topic Sen. Sanders addressed this afternoon was college affordability and tuition dilemmas. His comments on the matter involved saying how colleges need to make an effort on keeping their costs as low as possible and while that happens, Sanders also said there needs to be more funding at the federal level.

"On a personal level for young people themselves, everybody knows that it is terribly important to get a good education if you're going to get a decent paying job when you leave school" Senator Sanders said to the panel of college students.

As a member of the Independent Party, Sanders also talked about how he's considering trying his luck for president. When asked about running for presidency in 2016, Sanders said that it will be tough for someone like him because he would be trying to take down some of the most powerful and wealthiest people in the country.

Senator Bernie Sanders on presidency: "Yeah we want to raise the minimum wage, want to make sure women workers get the same pay as men workers, etc., etc., and when you do that, you're taking on a lot of powerful special interests so what I am trying to ascertain right now is whether or not there is that kind of grass roots support."

Sanders has gone back-and-forth with his decision on running for president. He said the key issue with running is the ability of raising a campaign fund.
