riverside auctionLYNDON - Over the weekend, the Riverside School held their annual benefit auction. This is the 15th annual auction the school is holding and it's used as a fundraiser to enhance some of the programs at the school.

Saturday night bidders filled the school, looking for trinkets and other goods to buy. The auction items ranged from hand-made pieces like scarves and blankets all the way up to higher-end items like Red Sox tickets, skiing lessons and things of that nature.

The night wasn't just about bidding... teachers and other guests came to mingle, feast on delicious hors d'oeuvres and enjoy a night out. St. Johnsbury Academy Culinary Instructor David Hale along with other students helped prepare the mouthwatering dishes. The plates had everything from Prosciutto to an assortment of cheeses, tuna tartar, beef sliders and nearly anything the hungry mind could imagine. The Riverside School was also able to coordinate with Sodexo from Lyndon State to bring in bartenders which would add to the ambiance of this fancy get together and would assure the auction to be a night to remember.

Cornelia Rath is a teacher and community organizer at the Riverside School. Rath elaborated on the fundraiser and said most of the money will go towards one of the programs they run.

"One of the programs we execute here at the Riverside School is to develop active learners and engage citizens in a supportive community" Rath added.

Rath reiterated the fact that tuition money for the Riverside School doesn't cover the costs of programs like this... making these types of fundraisers critical. Proceeds from the auction will also go towards setting up another fundraiser that the school runs. In mid-March students of the Riverside School will be putting on The Wizard of Oz for their yearly "Play Week." Money from the auction will go towards putting together a set for the play, paints as well as other supplies to put on the show.
