Winter olympics 2018BURKE— The olympics get under way Friday Night in South Korea. 13 athletes with a connection to the Green Mountain State are competing in the games. Several of them coming from Burke Mountain Academy.

Mikaela Shiffrin is among some of the graduates of the ski school headed to South Korea.

"We're of course all rooting for Mikaela and any other Vermonters for that matter," said Kevin Mack, Director of Resort Services at Burke Mountain.

Shiffrin is one of just seven riders to come out of Burke Mountain Academy and to be skiing in the olympics.

"We are pretty stoked to have them out there representing," said Mack. "We're of course all rooting for Mikaela and any other Vermonter's for that matter, but certainly any other BMA students."

Back in the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Shiffrin won the gold medal for slalom and most recently came in first for the World Cup slalom in November of 2017.
