BURKE - Avid skiers and riders can tell you that skiing is a very expensive sport, especially when it comes to buying equipment. Ski swaps are a great way for not only vendors to sell their equipment and clothing, but also for skiers and riders who want to get rid of skis and boots that may not fit them anymore. The Burke Town Parent Teacher Organization(P.T.O.) held their own ski swap this past weekend that benefited the P.T.O itself as well as the Village Sport Shop.
Tables were filled with anything from ski boots, hats, gloves and skis as people looked down every isle for deals. This specific swap has been going on for almost forty years and has been an important event that gets skiers and riders ready for the season to come. For parents with children learning to ski, its hard to buy new equipment every year as they grow, the boots from seasons past no longer fit them. This ski swap was a great way to get affordable equipment for the season, and then next year they can return to the swap to sell their boots and purchase a new pair.
One specific shopper is gearing up for the ski program at The Burke Town School, where her children have the opportunity to ski for a half day on Fridays. "We're getting back into the whole ski program for the kids on Fridays at school. So we are getting back into downhill so this is the first year we have actually made it. It's great, I knew it would be, and everyone in there is so helpful," said Andrea Thibaudeau.
Whether your an avid skier or just beginning, swaps are a great way to buy gently used equipment or jackets. On average, the event raises five thousand dollars for the towns P.T.O.
