Burke- The Conservation Collaboratives, Kingdom Trails, and the Burke Area Chamber of Commerce put on an event known as Circumburke this past Saturday.
Runners and Riders of all ages took to the Kingdom Trails to test their limits. The Kingdom Trails, which is a world class multiple-use trial system in the Northeast of Vermont, has recently been voted the best Mountain bike trail network in North America by Bike Magazine.
Participants of the event had the choice of competing in three different circuits, which included an eighteen, twenty-five, or fifty mile race.
With elevation gains ranking from 2000 to 6000 feet, and not the best trail conditions, runners and riders had many challenges to face.
"It was really muddy, because the last three days it rained." said one of the competitors. Another said that it felt like "a big patch of peanut butter, when riding your bike through the "soupy and sticky mud."
To keep everyone well hydrated, there were refreshment booths every four to six miles, with a post-race meal at the finishline.
Vermont Sports Magainze voted this years Circumburke a black diamond award for the best Mountain bike race and ride in Vermont. For more informaion on the event and the final results of the race, you can visit the Circumburke website.
