Fundraiser for Helstein Family

Sarah helsteinSAINT JOHNSBURY-
“The life of the dead is placed in the memory of the living.”- Marcus Tullius Cicero.  For those who knew the late Sarah Helstein this quote embodies all that she was and stood for.

One of Sarah’s good friends Myra Page shed some insight into the type of person that she was.

“Sarah reached a lot of people and touched a lot of peoples lives," said Page. "She was a very giving person so this goes to show how much she affected other peoples lives.’’

Sarah who had been in a back and forth battle with cancer for 10 years, recently lost that fight back in February.

From all over the Northeast Kingdom, Sarah was known by almost everyone. Whether it was at the Lyndon or Sutton schools, her work as a paraeducator affected everyone.

David Helstein, Sarah’s son who experienced the type of person his mother was first hand, shed some heartfelt words about her.

“She put herself out there for help for everyone else," says Helstein. "She put everybody else in front of her worrying about everyone else instead of herself.”

It’s because of the person Sarah was, and what she did for the people around her, that made those who attended the event in her honor smile.

This go fund me page is just one of the any ways that community members are trying to help out the Helstein family.

Hundreds of members of the Saint Johnsbury community made their way to the Moose Lodge to celebrate the life of Sarah as well as to support her family members.

“Sarah was well known in the community and loved," says Rhonda Taylor, coordinator of the event. "She gave so much to the community and so we’re just trying to help to give back to her family.”

Even in these hard times, the community is staying strong.

“It’s nice knowing the people in the community are behind you when you need them, we’ll talk with each other, visit with each other, and kind of be there to support each other through this process and it’s not an easy process”, says David Helstein.

Anyone who may be interested in making a donation of their own, can visit the families gofundme account, that is still active in Sarah’s name.
