FEMA Funding

LYNDONVILLE - After waiting nearly 4 months, the town of Lyndonville is finally receiving funding from FEMA.

The money will help the town recover from the floods in May and from Hurricane Irene in August.

Lyndonville Town Administrator Dan Hill is happy the town finally received the payments from the government.

“We got the first part in early November, which was $62,000, and then we got another $28,000 on, I think it was the 16th."

Hill added that the money will be used in part to help offset what the town has already spent in repairs.

The State of Vermont will provide the final 15 percent of what the town is owed.

Hill says that the town is currently working with FEMA on a deal to purchase two houses on Center Street.

“FEMA will pay 75 percent of the cost of the appraised value of the house, so that the owners would sell it to the town of Lyndon,” explains Hill.

It would then be up to the town to tear the buildings down.

The homeowners are currently working with FEMA and the town on this deal.
