Tuition Increase

For the past six years Vermont State College's have been under the national average for tuition increases, but this year it's a little different. The Vermont State College's Board of Trustees met last night to discuss the controversial issue of tuition.

A three percent tuition increase will be implemented throughout all VSC schools for the 2010-2011 academic year. Last year, was the only time VSC decided to raise tuition by the national average of state college students which is 6.7%. Next year students will be saving money with only a three percent tuition increase. It will be attractive for high school students looking at colleges.

Families hit by the recession will see these price increases next year at Vermont State Colleges. For a Vermonter attending state college's they will have to pay an extra $240. An out of state resident will pay $528 more, and a qualifying New England student will pay $360. Each college proposed different plans to increase tuition the range was between five and seven percent. This tuition increase would help cover contract agreements with the faculty, staff, and administration. Since the larger increase was turned down Lyndon, Johnson, Caselton, Vermont Tech, and CCV college's now have to make tough budget cuts across the line.
