Taking a Bite from Fear

ST. JOHNSBURY - A whole cast of guys and ghouls turned out for a haunting good time decorating cookies in St. Johnsbury Halloween night. The St. Johnsbury Police Department held its annual "Cookies 'n Costumes" event.

This was the fourth year that the St. Johnsbury Police Department held the annual cookie-decorating event. The event gives children of all ages a chance to get out of the cold and enjoy some sweet treats.

The event was also aimed at helping children meet police officers and to ease their intimidation.

'These kids are our future. There's too many times kids shy away from the police. We want them to know we are there for them," explains Chief Clem Houde.

Various people and organizations donated the cookies for the event. Donors included Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital, Price Chopper, and the families of the police officers. Volunteer Lisa Nelson thanked the organizations and families for their contributions.

"I think it's outstanding, I mean the kids each year really enjoy it. We see more and more kids every year," Nelson says.

The St. Johnsbury Police Department is doing their part to not only keep their community safe, but also stay active in their community.
