Student Scores Big on National Level

One local student has received a top honor, the Maxprep Citizen Athlete Award presented by CBS Sports and the National Guard. The award is given to high school athletes across the country that are model citizens in every area of life. This highlights academics, community service, and school involvement.
Meryln Courser, the Danville School Athletic Director, says, "The Maxprep award is given to a student, one of five students, in five regions of the United States and Patrick was awarded it for the Northeast region which is from Virginia to Maine. I understand there were 800 applicants." And this top high school athlete honor has been given to Patrick Rainville, a senior at the Danville School. Rainville said, "I was extremely excited, I was really surprised, but really excited."
Rainville has been a key player on his soccer and basketball teams, playing on the varsity level his entire high school career. Courser complimented Rainville's character and leadership, noting that he is a great role model for other students. Courser said, "I'm very proud of what he's done. He's an outstanding good citizen. He takes good care of the young, the old, and all these kids are out around here can tell you Patrick's name and cheer him on."
On another note, all athletics aside, he excels in his academics and other extra curricular activities. Rainville has been a member of the National Honor Society for three years and is second in his graduating class. Rainville says that most of his activities revolve around the Danville School, but "I'm president of the Student Council, I am in the Vermont Teen Leadership Program where I represent the school, I an in the Youth Council of Vermont, and I'm in the French Club."
Rainville will receive a $2500 scholarship for winning the Maxprep award, and if he wins the national award, his school will receive another $500 for their athletic program. For Rainville to win the national award, citizens from across the country will have to vote for him by watching a short video that highlights his athletic abilities and other qualities. Voting ends on April 28.
