Scratching for Veterans

lottery
The Vermont's Legislature is now considering a bill that would create a new and special lottery game that would benefit Vermont's Veterans.

If this bill is passed the Vermont lottery commission will be creating an instant winning scratch ticket, with proceeds from 21 up to 26% of each ticket sold, which then will be going into a new Veterans Fund.  This new fund will help raise money for organizations that serve the state's veterans.   A five-person committee will oversee the use of the money and are the ones to decide on which organizations the money will benefit.  One of the main concerns to Vermont Lawmakers and officials are worried this new lottery ticket might eat into lottery proceeds that provide about $21 million annually to the Vermont Education Fund.  According to the VA Watchdog dot Org, if this bill is not passed, chairwoman Helen Head, a South Burlington Democrat, still want to use this proposal as an occasion to discuss newer ways to fund veteran programs.
