Vitamins and other dietary supplements may see a 6% sales tax if lawmakers in Montpelier get their way. Governor James Douglas along with many health advocacy groups spoke strongly against the proposed tax. Melissa Bridges of the St. Johnsbury Food Co-op talked about the negative impacts a tax on health supplements would present. Bridges said, "For some people it's a medication, and no it should not be taxed. People need it for a healthy lifestyle. Why should it cost them financially?" Bridges claimed she would rather see taxes on foods that are less vital to a healthy life such as soda and candy.
