Puppets

Kids on the Block, not to be confused with the boy band, is a national organization that uses puppets to educate young children on various disabilities. The crew from Burlington took over the Lyndonville Municipal Building to bring light to one specific impairment, blindness.

One of the puppteers, 15 year old Paul Sumner, holds this particular show close to his heart because he is blind. Sumner said, "It's very important to, especially for blind and visually impaired people to make friends with others, especially non-sighted, just because for the simple fact that a lot of blind and visual impaired people don't get a lot of socialization from other people. It's very difficult."

Sumner works the puppet "Renaldo," an 11 year old blind boy. During the performance "Renaldo's" classmate "Brenda" learns about using braille, how the blind can walk, and how they use a computer for aid. Once the show was completed the children partook in workshops that put them in the shoes of the visually impaired.
