One Fast Food Restaurant is Changing the Sandwich

Webster's Dictionary defines a sandwich as two or more slices of bread having filling between them, but now there's something missing with Kentucky Fried Chicken's new Double Down.

Bacon and cheese put together between two pieces of chicken, that's what consists of KFC'S latest creation and some local residents like the idea. Matt Lucier, a Barton resident said, "It was delicious, I love it. It's basically a bacon and cheese sandwich but instead of bread it's chicken."But the reality is that some residents don't find it appealing at all. Kaitlin Briggs a Lyndon State College Student said, "It doesn't look appetizing and I'm not sure of the nutritional facts."

The Double Down may not be the healthiest decision but the deluxe Angus burger from McDonald's has over two hundred and ninety calories in one burger.  The double down only has five hundred and forty calories. But there is one thing that the sandwich is missing and that is bread, which is an important part of a healthy diet. Linda Berlin, UVM Nutrition and Food Sciences had to say, " Certainly one of the Dytec guidelines now is too increase consumption of whole grain and so the bread part of that kind of meal is definitely an important contribution to the diet."

Here are some selected nutritional facts from different fast food restaurants:

  • Volcano Burrito from Taco bell has over 800 calories
    Double Down

    Double Down Sandwich

  • Tripple Whopper from Burger King has 1,160 calories
  • Wendy's Tripple Baconator is the most fattening with over 1,300 calories

McDonalds, Burger King, Wendy's, and Taco Bell have nutritional menus to show customers how healthy the food is for them. So when you are looking for the prefect drive thru sandwich the choice that may the least worst for your health may not even be a sandwich at all.
