A new Veteran Affairs Clinic will be in operation next year in the Northeast Kingdom.Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders announced at a Veterans Day dinner that Newport will be the site of the new clinic.

Veterans will now have access to their primary healthcare in the Northeast Kingdom, as opposed to traveling to White River Junction which Service Officer Donald Young is happy about, “If they have to have some minor shots or get some medicines renewed all they would have to go to is the outreach clinic instead of driving all the way to White River which would be a lot easier for some vets”.

The location of the clinic has yet to be determined but could be placed in the North Country Hospital. Senator Sanders is also trying to increase the compensation for burial costs for Veterans as well as increasing educational aid.
