Music that Never Ages

Friday, December 11th, 2009

Eveline Wagner is a talented musician who often brings joy to the lives of those around her. But when you find out that she is 100 years old, her story only begins to get interesting.

Despite being diagnosed with dementia, Eveline still plays with her daughter Millie, who explains, "Mom and I have been doing the harmonica and keyboard. Since we've been playing with the Bobbin Mill Players which started about 11 or 12 years ago".

Eveline doesn't let her age or her condition stop her from playing her harmonica, often for other residents at Newport Healthcare.

Patty Beckwith is the Activities Director and she says, "The Bobbin Mill Players come over once a month with a whole crew of people and play wonderful toe-tapping music for the residents. People just get the urge to get up and dance. Eveline pulls out her harmonica and it's just delightful. Eveline will play even when the group isn't here. She'll be sitting in her room and she'll just come out in the hall and start playing for the residents going by. She brings music to everybody around here. It's really wonderful".

Eveline will turn 101 on May 1st of next year.
