Health Care in Vermont
It’s not hard to grasp the idea of why health care might be a topic of interest for just about anyone.
Individuals and businesses can no longer afford the crippling cost of health coverage, and millions of Americans have no coverage at all.
Many Vermonters are ready for a change in their health care, which is why they came together in Danville on Tuesday night.Residents gathered at the school theater, where they were able to address their concerns about how Vermont’s current health care system is affecting their lives.
The ‘Health care is a Human Right’ campaign is a project formed by the Vermont Workers Center, to seek what is politically possible to change in health care reform through grassroots organizing. Many community members shared personal stories of how the current plan has put a damper on them financially.
Theresa Del-Pozzo from Barnet said, “If the government could find 750 billion dollars in two weeks without blinking an eye, or asking for an accounting to bail out the banks why isn't there money for health care? We are being forced into developing a separate health care system here in Vermont because of the failure of the Federal Government”.
The majority of people at the meeting said they would like to see a push for a single payer health care system for the state of Vermont.
“ I'd like to see Universal Health Care. Health care for all, just like there is medicare for everyone over 65 years old.Everyone should be able to sign up for it”, said Del-Pozzo.
