Vermont's Northeast Kingdom has many outdoor activities to offer its youth, but with tight wallets for families it is hard to afford the pricier events including winter sports. There is one program that offers a hand to get kids out of the house and onto the snow. Kingdom Kids gives scholarships to children so that they can go mountain biking, cross country skiing, snowboarding, alpine skiing, and skating.

All children that want to benefit from this program are required to fill out an application. Anyone can apply and all are encouraged to do so. Each year the organization tries to give out forty scholarships. In the eight years Kingdom Kids has been in existence it has given over 230 children the chance to enjoy Vermont's recreation through donations and fundraisers they hold throughout the year. Kingdom Kids looks to the community and local businesses to keep their program up and running. Heather McAlister, President of Kingdom Kids, said, "A lot of people are very interesting in seeing kids get off the couch and use more outdoor activities."

Fundraisers are a big part of the organization and their most recent was a concert held at Burke Mountain. Many people came out to enjoy the music of the Starline Rhythm Boys. Reed Cass, a Kingdom Kids supporter, was in attendance and thinks its a great way to get children to become more active.
