Eliminating Vermont Sticker Program
Vermont budget cuts have ended a prominent state program. The Vermont seal of quality sticker is seen on many Vermont products and foods for the past couple of decades. The purpose of the sticker is to inform consumers that the product is made in Vermont. Currently, the state is removing the sticker program. Glenn Goodrich from Goodrich's Maple Farm in West Danville says, "that the Vermont seal of quality is a very important program for their business." Goodrich also says, that it's been a great program to promote Vermont products including selling his maple syrup. The state has made dozens of cost cutting moves to balance the state budget, and the Vermont seal of quality program was one of them. State agriculture officials also say that the program is on hold for now since there are no financial resources to run a more efficient program. One idea is to conduct inspections of any product that has the Vermont seal of quality. Local businesses hope that consumers will trust Vermont products with or without a sticker.
