Barnet's New Garage

After a new EPA Regulation in 2004 Barnet needed to build a new town garage, to store all their town trucks.  And now they finally built that new home that the select board members believe should last the town for a good 50 to 100 years to come.

The regulation had the select board figure out how they were going to get the money to make these things plan a reality.

Ted Faris, a Barnet select board member, said "What we did was go to the town on town meeting and say we'd like to be prepared for this when it comes down the pike at us and have saving plan when the determination is made of what we need then we'll have some money to work with."

Even though the town as a whole voted "YES" for this plan and started saving funds, not everyone was happy with the idea.

However, in the end they were exempted from the regulation, but decided to use the saved money for a new town garage, the town has been in need of a new garage for 30 years.

Even though they did some of the work the Barnet select board would like to thank all those who put in all their hard work into completing the garage.

The building was completed just after the start of the year and with the abnormally dry winter this year; it has been housing the trucks much more than expected.
