Shedding Those Extra Pounds From Winter
Thursday, May 6th, 2010

When the weather is poor many people have difficulty staying active especially during the long winter months. If you put your mind to getting back into shape it isn't that hard at all.
Now that the weather is improving, it is the time to get out and stay active to shed those extra winter pounds. But for many it is easier said then done. Sharon Slayton, St. Johnsbury resident says, "Just do it, if you sit around your muscles just go away. I've realized that, I thought I was being active. I square dance and I bike, when I broke my leg I couldn't do those things so I needed to get active again to keep myself in shape."
Using a personal trainer is one of the best ways to jump starting your work out routine.
Gym's like the club at Old Mill in St. Johnsbury, have staff on site who can build a work out regimen designed just for you. Aaron Fondry, a Personal Trainer at the Old Mill said, "We get a lot of people that just come in and they don't know how to get started and what exercises to do, what muscles and that's where we come in."
The trainers will start newcomers out slow, and then will adjust your work out routine as you start getting stronger. But, you still have to participate in order for training to work.
Fondry says, "I don't like to tell people we're going to make you lose twenty five pounds, I'm going to get you into better shape. If you want to get to a certain goal that's great and we're going to do everything to get you there but a lot of it comes down to what you put into it and outside of the gym as well."

Now that you know that what you do and what you put into it is an important key to this entire process. But always remember this when you just don't feel like staying with it.
Joyce Wieselmann, St. Johnsbury: "I would say go to the gym, this isn't the type of environment that you want to run outside or something like that, it's too dangerous in the winter so I think joining a gym anytime is a good time."
Trainers want to know that you don't have to use just a gym but as long as you get out and stay active then it will help you shed those extra pounds.
