Raising Awarness of Learning Disablities

LYNDONVILLE- A school district must put out a notice to parents if there child has a learning disability or one is suspected. The Caledonia North supervisory union is requesting an open dialogue with the parents in the surrounding communities. This discussion would be about early detection of any learning disability in their children.

In past years the parents of pre-school children have been the most responsive to this request. The addition information gathered won't necessarily mean any more funding for the district, which has been an ongoing pattern since federal law went into place in 1975.

Student services director Brian Carroll said "the exception then that the federal government would fund one-hundred percent and we are no where near that funding. We still have an ethical responsibility and moral responsibility to provide special needs." For more information on that you can contact Brian at (802) 626-6100 extension 203.
