Principal to Kiss Goat

ST. JOHNSBURY - In preparation of the school's book fair, St. Johnsbury School Academic Principal Martha Dubuque made a deal with her students. If they read a set amount of books, she would kiss a farm animal.

The St. Johnsbury School's bi-annual book fair opened after the school day Monday. This book fair is called "To the Books and Beyond" and runs for seven days. During those seven days students will be brought to the book fair by their teachers, and are able to visit after school as well.

To promote reading in the school Academic Principal Martha Dubuque made a unique promise to her students.

"If the kids read twenty-five hundred books during the month of October our academic principal said she would kiss a farm animal. So she will be kissing a goat, because we hit about twenty-eight hundred books," says Donna Goodhue, the Book Fair Chairperson.

The book fair sells a wide range of books, including literature for Kindergarteners all the way up to more advanced readers including a few for adults. The book fair also sells wacky and unique school supplies for the students.

Though some of the books carry a 40-dollar price tag, there are less expensive books available for just under two-dollars.

The "To the Books and Beyond" book fair will run until next Monday, to learn more you can visit the book fair's homepage.
