Community members in East St. Johnsbury are writing new pages in the Peter and Polly Park story.

The Peter and Polly Park in St. Johnsbury were inspired by the children's books first written in 1989. Now in 2010, the park is getting a facelift to bring community members back together. Tom Huntington of St. Johnsbury said, "It's just really a great community meeting place and gathering place that I think maybe this community hasn't needed but I think its something we really do need now especially with all these new kids around and there will be more and more in the future."

Shilo Wilson also of St. Johnsbury said, "I have got five kids myself and they love having a spot to go and hang out in fact last old home day my middle daughter made a friend from down the street who she had never meet before and ah right down here at the park and they are great friends now they see each other almost everyday."

The East Village Association is working hard to maintain and restore the park to have a place for kids to play. They have also planted trees in memory of citizens who have passed away in the community. Another St. Johnsbury resident, Pam Parker said, "Several People in town were interested in establishing a memorial park and having um trees and shrubs planted in memory who have a connection to the village."

The park has a rich history and St. Johnsbury residents are doing their part to take care of it. Resident Kenny Colby reflects, "People my age that grew up here that still live here we have kids now so its a time for us to renew the park and get back to having a sense of community that we lost when the school closed."

Kids enjoy the park and are enthusiastic with the work done there. The park committee plans to build more features and is even considering an ice skating rink in the winter.
