Long Term Contract for Lyndonville

LYNDONVILLE - Lyndonville will be locking into a contract to acquire a new power source. The contract will be effective until 2026.
Lyndonville Power brought before the board, and the town, a proposal. The town had a chance to lock in a fifteen-year contract to obtain their methane gas from a landfill in Fitchburg, Massachusetts.
This would mean that the town would pay the same price for their gas every year. Even if gas prices rose to an all-time high, Lyndonville would still pay the same price they locked in this year. Ken Mason of Lyndonville Electric believes this is a smart move to make.
"The price is locked in. It's a reliable cost. It's a cost you can count on. The cost today, with the cost of fuel... what happens if a hurricane hits Louisiana? Natural gas prices go up, and the price of power goes up," Mason explained.
Voting went until 7 p.m. that night and the results have been released. Thirteen people voted "Yes", while only 1 answered "No".
The town was also offered a 5-year extension on their contract if they wish to take it when the time comes.
