VERMONT - For those who do not pay your property taxes on time, you may soon be exempt from being charged late fees.

Vermont lawmakers are considering passing a bill that would eliminate the current eight-percent penalty. Supporters say that people who do not pay, often have forgotten or have suffered job loss. They claim it is unfair, in both instances, to charge a fee.

Those unsupportive of the bill claim that without the fee, there will not be an incentive for people to pay on time.
