Volunteers can help report the weather more accurately

If you really like watching the weather and you want to have a more active role here is your chance. The national weather service is looking for volunteers from across rural northern Vermont and the Northeast Kingdom.

The Burlington office for the NWS (National Weather Service) is hosting a free presentation  at the Greensboro free library from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. The presentation will discuss a program called sky warn that looks for volunteers to report weather observations to the Burlington office. Some northeast kingdom radar signals are blocked by the Green Mountains leaving holes in the radar coverage. The observations will help keep forecasters updated on storms in the area. For more on that you can contact John Goff from the national weather service at 802-862-2475 or email john.goff@noaa.gov. LSC Atmospheric Science Student, Sam Couture, thinks this is a great opportunity for small towns to receive accurate weather coverage.

"Especially for small towns like this because big names aren't usually here. Getting the small reports especially in areas like Lyndonville that don't' have good radar coverage, they can actually see what did happen even if it didn't show up on radar."
