Lyndonville Fire Update

LYNDONVILLE - A fire broke out at a home sparing nothing but the garage.

Just after 4pm on Friday, emergency responders from Lyndonville, East Burke, Sheffield, Concord, and Sutton arrived at the home of Janet Bennion on Cotton Road.

Neighbors saw smoke coming from the home.  The residents were not home when the fire began.

Lyndonville Fire Captain Jeff Corow was at the scene of the fire and commented, "The home owner is on scene, everybody is out of the building no animals or anything like that. Right now we just have a big heavy fire."

Bennion had just recently returned from a trip, her husband and pets were still in Montana.

The fire may have weakened the structure of a home, but strengthened the ties of a community.  Bennion's neighbors gathered around offering warm beverages to fight the cold to show her support.

Louonne Tomasao, a neighbor said," If something like this happens, Lord willing, every community and neighborhood would do the same as ours."

Firefighters worked through the night to contain the fire as best they could.  The estimated cost of the damages is around $100,000.

The fire was investigated and it was deemed accidental and the cause was not suspicious.
