Burke Open to Vendors?

BURKE - Last week the Burke planning commission drafted a recommendation regarding temporary vendors.
The draft created by the planning commission requires that vendors have written permission from landowners that will be within 50 feet of the vendor. The commission also requires safe parking for customers and that structures be removed during the off season.
It is likely the commission will set a fee for vendors at a cost of $20 a week or $100 for a season. No word has been finalized on this decision.
Vendors that have access to Burke is about more then just the money, according to Dave Ormiston, a member of the Burke planning commission. "I think it comes down to finding that balance between, you know, what can work and what's good for the town and good for the neighbors and safety of the people as well."
Promoting tourism is not something new for Burke. This past year Kingdom Trails, Burke Mountain, Trout River Brewery, and local professional mountain biker Knight Ide all teamed up to help promote more tourism in the Northeast Kingdom. Burke Mountain worked with Kingdom Trails to help get summer and fall lift access for a down hill mountain biking course. Kingdom Trails had Knight Ide construct the down hill course which Ide in turn named after his favorite local beer, "Knight Slayer," brewed by Trout river Brewery.
